Introducing Scran, a lockdown-themed
food & drink magazine

Welcome to the first edition of Scran, a digital magazine by Eat Drink Guides and Out of Place Studio.

We hope many of you will already be familiar with our annual food and drink guides, which we have been publishing for the past few years in Bradford, Ilkley and Harrogate. Like many businesses we were significantly affected by the outbreak of Covid-19 in March, which forced us to postpone all of our 2020 guides indefinitely.

But seeing the innovative way many of the restaurants, cafes, bars and producers we work with reacted to the lock down situation has definitely inspired us to do something a bit different.

We had been looking into doing a digital magazine to supplement the guides for a while and this felt like the perfect time to give it a try.

We saw it as an opportunity to provide free publicity for food and drink businesses at a time when many have been forced to slash their marketing budgets and are in need of support more than ever.

We have approached over 250 venues in Bradford, Ilkley, Harrogate and Huddersfield (where we are due to launch a brand new guide this year) and the result is a packed magazine with 100 pages of personal accounts, original recipes, useful features and useful information.

We hope you enjoy the read and if you can take one thing away from this issue, we hope it is to support your local independents and try something new. You won’t regret it!

Help support the writers, designers and illustrators who made this issue possible

Scran magazine is an unfunded project that has involved over 200 hours of work. Like many of the venues featured in the magazine, our business has been seriously affected by the coronavirus outbreak, with all our 2020 guides (and the income we rely on them for) delayed until things return to something like normal.

We did not feel it was fair or appropriate to charge venues to feature in the magazine at this time, so aside from some very welcome advertising from our friends at Visit Bradford, Huddersfield BID and Bradford BID, this project has been put together in our own time and at our own cost.

We’re not looking for sympathy but we would like to do another edition, so if you have enjoyed the magazine and you would like to support the writers, designers and illustrators who made this issue possible please donate whatever you feel using the link below.
